Granular Activated Carbon
Aliph Carb manufactures a variety of coconut shell-based activated carbon in both standard and custom sizes, with mesh sizes ranging from 4x8 to 18x50, tailored for various applications. Granulated Activated Carbon (GAC) is a porous adsorption medium with an exceptionally high internal surface area. During the adsorption process, liquids or gases pass through the porous structure of the activated carbon, where target compounds diffuse to the surface and are retained by attractive forces. Made from high-carbon-content coconut shells, GAC is ideal for the removal of taste- and odor-producing compounds, natural organic matter, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), synthetic organic compounds, and disinfection by-product precursors.
GAC has proven to be highly effective, with removal efficiencies of up to 99.9% for many VOCs, including trichloroethylene (TCE) and tetrachloroethylene (PCE). In most cases, it can reduce contaminants to concentrations below 1 µg/l. Additionally, GAC’s regenerative carbon beds allow for easy recovery of the adsorption media, making it a cost-effective and environmentally sustainable solution for various industrial purification needs.
